What the pattern actually shows

Purchases look like nothing in particular. Over the 20 sessions before a buy, the average prior return is -0.62%, and 54.7% of buys follow a decline — which is close enough to a coin flip that no entry signal is visible across 3,508 transactions.

Sales are the opposite. Before a sale the same window averages -5.09%, and 70.7% of them follow a decline, across 2,665 transactions. Positions are being sold into weakness, consistently.

Buying on no discernible signal while systematically selling losers is the signature of a managed or rules-based account — rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting — rather than discretionary stock picking. The volume supports that reading: 8,896 transactions across only 272 dates, with several hundred booked on a single day.

Where the activity sits

Each tile is a security, sized by how often it was traded and coloured by net direction.

net buying net selling balanced tile area ∝ number of transactions
Area is how often something was traded — not how much is held. A periodic transaction report discloses transactions and never positions, so a large tile means frequently traded, nothing more. A deep-red tile can still be the biggest holding in the account. For actual position sizes see the disclosed portfolio.

What preceded each trade

Price return of each security over the sessions before the disclosed transaction date. Only trades with a resolved ticker and available price history are included.

The family — a different disclosure regime

The transactions above come from OGE Form 278-T, which only federal officials file. Family members hold no government post, so they never appear there. They surface instead in SEC Forms 3 and 4, filed by officers, directors and 10% owners of public companies.

FilerForm 4 filingsCompanies GrantsOpen-market buys/sells SharesValue at grantPeriod
Trump Donald J. JR 6 3 6 none 291,652 $1,640,550 2025-06-18 → 2026-07-15
Read this column carefully: open-market buys and sells are zero. Every family Form 4 here carries transaction code A — a grant or award, priced at $0.00 — which is board compensation, not a purchase. Nobody in this table bought or sold shares on the open market. Describing these as “trades” would be wrong, so we don’t.

“Value at grant” is ours, not theirs. The $0.00 is what the recipient paid, not what the shares were worth. We multiply the share count by that security’s closing price on the grant date to show the market value actually received. It is a calculation on top of the filing, not a disclosed figure, and it ignores vesting schedules and restrictions.

A check on that method: the awkward share counts resolve to round dollar figures — 11,433 shares at $13.12 is $150,000; 71,429 at $2.03 is $145,000. The grants were denominated in dollars and converted to shares at the grant-date price, so recovering the round numbers is evidence the valuation is reading the filings correctly rather than inventing a total.

Recorded beneficial ownership

Positions declared on Form 3, the initial statement of beneficial ownership. A Form 3 records what someone holds when they become an insider — it is not a transaction, and no shares changed hands to create these entries.

Who is not here, and why. Eric Trump and Barron Trump appear in neither dataset. The Trump Organization is privately held, so it files nothing with the SEC, and neither holds a federal post that would require an OGE disclosure. Their absence is a fact about what is filed, not a gap in this data. A periodic transaction report does cover the filer’s spouse and dependent children, but the form never identifies which rows are whose — so no transaction above can be attributed to anyone but the filer.
What these filings do and do not say. A periodic transaction report discloses a dollar bracket, a direction and a date. It does not disclose a share count or an execution price, so a real profit-and-loss figure cannot be derived from it, and none is claimed here. Totals are ranges because the source is a range. Scanned filings were read with a vision model and every row was checked against the form’s own structure — the ten legal amount brackets, a date no later than the filing, a sequential row index — with anything failing withheld rather than published. Nothing here is investment advice.
