Further strategic locations include the Barnett Shale in north-central Texas and the Marcellus Shale in northern West Virginia. Beyond its direct operations, Summit Midstream Partners possesses an ownership stake in Ohio Gathering, an entity that owns and operates facilities for natural gas gathering and condensate stabilization within southeastern Ohio's Utica Shale. The company primarily serves natural gas and crude oil producers. Established in 2009, SMLP is governed by its general partner, Summit Midstream GP, LLC, and its corporate headquarters are situated in Houston, Texas.
