Its widespread operations cover Japan, the Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and Africa. The firm's varied business is structured into six key segments, plus an "Others" category. The Printing & Solutions division supplies a range of products, including inkjet printers, both monochrome and color laser printers, fax machines, and scanners. This segment also offers electronic stationery such as labeling systems, and portable and label printers. For the Personal & Home market, Brother provides home sewing and cutting machines, alongside various sewing and embroidery machines, including those designed for commercial use. The Machinery segment concentrates on industrial equipment, manufacturing industrial sewing machines, machine tools, and garment printers. The company was founded in 1908 as Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Co. and was renamed Brother Industries, Ltd. in 1962.
