About Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited

Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (FFHL) is a diversified holding company primarily engaged, through its various subsidiaries, in providing property and casualty (P&C) insurance, reinsurance, and investment management services. Its operations span a global footprint, including significant activities in the United States, Canada, and Asia. The company's business activities are organized across three principal segments: Insurance and Reinsurance, Run-off operations, and a portfolio of Non-Insurance Companies. Within its P&C insurance division, FFHL offers a wide array of coverages. This includes protection against property damage from incidents such as fire, explosions, earthquakes, windstorms, floods, boiler failures, machinery breakdowns, and construction defects. Furthermore, it underwrites policies for vehicles, commercial and personal real estate, and agricultural crops. Beyond these core property lines, the company extends into specialized insurance products like workers' compensation, employer's liability, accident and health, medical malpractice, professional liability, and umbrella coverage. It also addresses niche markets with marine, aerospace, and surety risk insurance solutions. Complementing its direct insurance offerings, Fairfax also provides comprehensive reinsurance services. The Non-Insurance Companies segment demonstrates significant diversification across various industries. This includes ownership and investment in retail enterprises specializing in home improvement, toys, baby products, golf equipment, sports apparel, housewares, home décor, tableware, and gifts. Fairfax also operates holiday resorts and provides integrated travel and travel-related financial services. Its interests extend to agricultural businesses focused on the origination, processing, and distribution of pulses and staple foods, as well as the creation, production, and distribution of entertainment content. Other ventures include pet medical insurance and database services, alongside media and marketing solutions. Established in 1951, the company was originally known as Markel Financial Holdings Limited before officially changing its name to Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited in 1987. Its corporate headquarters are situated in Toronto, Canada.
