About Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd.

Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. is an international enterprise primarily focused on the discovery, processing, and refining of non-ferrous metals. The company structures its diverse operations across three main divisions: Mineral Resources, Smelting & Refining, and Materials. Its product offerings include various metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, and other precious metal resources. Beyond these foundational materials, Sumitomo Metal Mining manufactures an extensive range of specialized products, including battery components like nickel hydroxides and lithium nickel-cobalt-aluminum oxides; advanced crystal materials such as lithium tantalates/niobates, optical isolators, and faraday rotators; and diverse powder materials encompassing thick film pastes, various metal powders, near-infrared shielding compounds, deep-tinting substances, sputtering targets, electromagnetic sheets/coils, rare earth magnetic materials, and lubricants. Additionally, the company provides packaging materials like copper-clad polyimide films and printed wiring boards, alongside catalysts for automotive, chemical, hydro processing (including rejuvenation and regeneration), and petrochemical applications. Its portfolio also extends to construction materials, as well as electronic terminals, connectors, and lens barrels. Further diversifying its business, the company is active in water and precious material recycling, environmental engineering, sterilization and property modification through irradiation, and domestic maritime logistics. Other ventures include real estate and specialized technical engineering services. Originally established in 1590 and based in Tokyo, Japan, the company traded as Seika Kogyo (Mining) Co., Ltd. until it was rebranded Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. in June 1952.
