Addressing the ongoing pandemic, Shionogi is also advancing S-600918 and S-217622 for COVID-19, with S-555739 specifically aimed at preventing the aggravation of the disease. Beyond therapeutics, it supplies antibody test kits for COVID-19. The organization has established collaborative agreements with institutions like Nagasaki University, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, and The Kitasato University to further the development of antimalarial drugs.
